Dr Darryl Mercieca

Treating Dentist

Dr Darryl Mercieca loves his profession and the opportunities it presents to work with patients at a very personal level. Throughout his career, he has taken a very considered approach towards his continuous professional development, focusing at each stage on what the greatest needs of his patients have been.

He established his first dental practice in 1994. Three years later, he went back to the University of Sydney to study Advanced Dental Sedation. When he integrated IV sedation Dentist into his practice, he was the first dentist to do so in Greater Western Sydney. This immediately drew a significant number of patients with complex presentations to him. To date, Dr Mercieca has performed IV sedations on over 18,000 patients in practices Sydney-wide.

His relationships with patients experiencing dental phobias came to underpin his consulting practice in general – he is extremely empathetic, educative, calm and a gentle person. To serve families and his long-term patients needs, Dr Mercieca has focused on offering full smile makeovers which includes treating patients needing implants, crowns, veneers, dentures, teeth whitening all the while using the very best materials to achieve optimal results. Many of these long procedures have been performed on patients while they were asleep.

After extensive years of practice and with this highly experienced team, Dr Mercieca envisages Smiles Matter as the practice where the best care and attention is afforded to all patients. He is supported by his loving wife, three children and a household full of

animals and occasionally veggies, whenever he gets the chance to exercise his green thumbs.

Dr Gary Clark

Specialist Orthodontist

Is an esteemed Specialist Orthodontist who has served Greater Western Sydney for the past two decades. Prior to establishing his first practice, Dr Clark served as a general dentist for defence forces in Australia and overseas for 10 years. His commitment to integrating cutting edge technology in his practices has been long held; benefitting thousands of local patients with wide ranging presentations and consequently, the international dental community alike. Dr Clark is an invited lecturer in universities across South East Asia, China and the USA.

Alexander Petratos

Dental Prosthetist & Senior Dental Technician

Alexander Petratos has over 20 years of experience as a Dental Technician and has been a Dental Prosthetist for 15 years and counting. A perfectionist to the core, Alexander strives to provide his patients with functional, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing dentures – be that full, partial and implant retained dentures. He builds rapport comfortably with adults and children alike, and can be seen directly for any kind of denture work or to get mouthguards fitted – saving patients time and effort.

He believes in making that “smile matter” for every patient, dedicating himself to provide the best service possible from initial consultations through to issuing his patient’s new dentures. He is motivated and enthusiastic about the whole team approach at Smiles Matter to deliver the best outcomes for all patients.

When Alexander is not working his magic at Smiles Matter, he is a family first-guy with 3 beautiful children. He lets loose by pushing for a clinical finish on a football ground or travelling to distant destinations for a bite of adventure fishing.

Alison

Practice Manager

Having started working in a dental practice at the ripe age of 16, Alison saw the importance of great dentistry to a person’s health and confidence through the patients she worked with some time before ever needing a serious procedure done herself. At 18, she had her wisdom teeth removed under sedation and has since used Invisalign to enhance her smile. She regularly whitens her teeth and has 6 monthly dental check-ups and cleans. Alison is the embodiment of what we strive for with our patients at Smiles Matter – a patient who appreciates the philosophy that prevention is better than cure, not only for one’s health but for their self-worth and long-term financial well-being.

Alison’s management of our practice is full-proof. Her relationships with patients, suppliers, consulting specialists and importantly, the rest of the Smiles Matter team are so energetic, professional and forward-thinking that everything runs smoothly and efficiently, as we like it to.

Outside the office, Alison is a wife and mother to a beautiful baby boy, two dog-babies and two cat-babies. She enjoys a beach holiday possibly a little bit more than taking care of her garden and home.

Mel

Practice Manager

With over 20 years of experience in the dental profession, Mel found a passion for working with patients from her very first role. She values patients’ comfort, right to be well-informed and willingness to adopt practices that will improve their health, turn by turn. Her mission is to help every patient achieve a great relationship to their own oral health and dentist. Her professionalism, patience and care has been a bedrock for countless patients, particularly those who fear dental procedures.

Mel’s dedication continues to evolve. Currently undertaking a Diploma in Nursing, Mel says she wants nothing more than to enhance her skills and knowledge in patient care and to broaden her horizons in the healthcare industry. She feels blessed to be working with such an amazing team who share her values and who equally maintain their own continued professional growth.

A mother of three and grandmother to one so far, when Mel is not busy caring for others, she prefers to simply travel.

Before all else, patient needs and comfort are paramount at Smiles Matter. Your smile and dental health is something that is inherently yours. We are here to help you craft your look, achieve optimal functionality and dental health, all the while prioritising your experience as a whole.

Located in a beautiful house in North Parramatta, our surgery is blessed with wide windows lined with greenery from our garden. Inside, we have purposefully designed our consulting rooms to be spacious and unimposing. We strive to create an atmosphere that is inviting, yet professional.

Sufficient time is always arranged for appointments. It is important that patients are afforded every opportunity to openly express their history and goals from their first consultation onwards.

Our work ranges from dealing with a missing teeth, addressing gum health, discoloration, restoring broken teeth to fitting crowns, dentures, bridges, implants and complex surgeries. We can safely reassure you, the breadth of our clinical experience is far-reaching.

Our History

Offering patients a fresh and calm experience with dentistry runs through the heart of our practice. It is something our team has crafted together over time. Each of our clinical and operational team members having worked together for more than a decade. In the case of Dr Mercieca and Ali, their working relationship started 27 years ago and counting.

We have worked through all of the developments in pain-free dentistry as they’ve emerged. We use our professional tools, shared mindset and ability to have a laugh together to create the stress-free environment all patients ought to have when they walk through our practice doors.
